Escalators

There are several key sensors that play an important role in the safe operation of escalators. Photoelectric sensors are used to detect whether someone is approaching the escalator, and after sensing the presence of a person, it will control the escalator to start or stop to ensure the safety of passengers. Inductive sensors are mainly used to monitor the operational status of the escalator, such as detecting the speed and direction of the drive chain, ensuring the correct number of steps and normal speed of the handrail, as well as checking the position of the access cover, etc., to ensure the smooth operation of the system. The limit switch is responsible for monitoring the braking system of the escalator to ensure that the escalator does not operate beyond the safety limits and to detect any deformed or damaged steps and handrails in time. It also monitors the traction and tension of the drive belt to avoid malfunction. Ultrasonic sensors, on the other hand, quickly sense when someone enters the escalator, helping to start or stop the escalator in time. These sensors work closely together to ensure that the escalator not only operates efficiently, but also responds quickly in the event of an abnormality to safeguard passengers.

How our Sensors are Used in Escalators

Telemecanique offers a wide range of sensors that play their part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of escalators. Photoelectric sensors detect the presence of an object by emitting an infrared beam and receiving reflected light. When a passenger approaches, the sensor senses that the beam is blocked and starts or stops the escalator. Inductive sensors monitor the running direction, speed and number of steps of the drive chain, steps and other components by detecting electromagnetic changes in metal objects to ensure the smooth operation of the system. Limit switches work through mechanical contacts, triggering the switch to control the opening or stopping of the system when the escalator operation reaches the set position, preventing the escalator from exceeding the safety range, and monitoring the traction and tension of the drive belt to avoid equipment damage. The ultrasonic sensor detects obstacles or people by transmitting ultrasonic waves and receiving the reflection of the waves to ensure that the escalator stops or adjusts its operation status in time when it encounters obstacles to avoid accidents. Through the synergistic effect of these sensors, Telemecanique provides a comprehensive safety guarantee, enabling the escalator to operate efficiently and stably.

During the operation of escalators, a variety of sensor technologies provided by Telemecanique play a vital role in ensuring that the equipment operates in an efficient and safe manner.XU series photoelectric sensors utilize the principle of beam interruption to detect the opening and closing status of the elevator doors and obstacles, ensuring that the elevator doors are closed safely and avoiding the risk of passengers suffering from trapping and injuries, etc.XS series inductive sensors accurately monitor the operation status of the drive chain through electromagnetic induction, including the running direction, speed, number of steps, handrail speed and the position of the access cover of the escalator. These sensors provide real-time data to ensure smooth operation and timely maintenance of escalators.
In terms of safety monitoring, XCKN/XCNT series limit switches are used to accurately detect the switching status of elevator brakes, deformed or damaged steps, damaged handrails, and other critical components to avoid overrun or equipment damage. In addition, XCNR IEC series limit switches are adapted to more demanding environments and continuously monitor the safety status of the escalator system through high durability and anti-interference to ensure stable operation within the specified operating range. XX series ultrasonic sensors transmit and receive ultrasound waves to monitor the escalator’s belt tension and traction, and they also activate the elevator in time when they detect a passenger’s entry to improve energy This improves energy efficiency and enhances the passenger experience.
These sensors work together to provide a full range of intelligent protection for the escalator system, ensuring safe, stable and efficient operation.
